Git Off Mah Lawn!

Reading Ice Cream Social on the blog From the Cheap Seats got me thinking.

Am I the only person with mixed feelings about having neighbors?

I have stalked the people who moved in on the corner because I saw them pushing a stroller, but I’m over it now. No more swooping up the baby when I see them coming down the block and trying to make it look casual that we’re checking the mail at 10 in the morning, no ma’am.

It’s not because I’m busy. It’s not because I have too many friends, especially with half of them moving away within the next year.

It’s because if I know my neighbors, I have to say hello to them every time I see them. That seems like work.

Yes, the decline of community life is my fault. Sorry!

I’m with you on that. The neighbor thing can get really old… I have one that sometimes stumbles over after drinking whiskey and then tells REALLY long stories. Riveting stuff really, like every single car they have owned their entire married life, whether it had air and what kind of transmission.

That alone makes me think that living in the country might not be all bad.

I am so right there with you. It’s not like I dislike my neighbors, being friendly to them just…feels like a responsibility. I don’t know when I got to be such a recluse.
